Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before setting out for a short hike of approximately 3 hours to visit Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. This unique temple, perched high on a mountain, is reached via a scenic trail from the village. It stands as a splendid example of Bhutan’s remarkable architectural and artistic traditions, and is the only one of its kind in the world. As you descend, take in the breathtaking views of the Punakha Valley.

In the afternoon, visit Punakha Dzong, the second-largest and one of the oldest dzongs in Bhutan, which is also a UNESCO tentative site. Situated at the confluence of the Mo Chhu and Po Chhu rivers, this majestic fortress is where the two rivers combine to form the Puna Tsang Chhu, a tributary of the mighty Brahmaputra River. Constructed in 1638 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal Wangchuck, the dzong was built on the exact spot prophesized by Guru Rinpoche.
