Day 01
Hong Kong / Paro – Thimphu

05:35    Depart Hong Kong with Bhutan Airlines, B3 789 direct flight to Paro

07:50    Arrive Paro, Bhutan

Upon arrival, you will be greeted at the airport and transferred to Thimphu, which is approximately a 90-minute drive.

In the afternoon, head north into the Thimphu Valley, making a stop to view Trashi Chhoe Dzong, a stunning Buddhist monastery and fortress located at the northern edge of Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. This dzong was built on the western bank of the Wang Chu River and serves as both a religious and administrative center.

Next, visit the Chagangkha Lhakhang Temple, an early medieval Buddhist temple in Thimphu, constructed in the 12th century by Lama Phajo Drukgom Zhigpo, the founder of the Drukpa Kagyü School of Buddhism. This temple is known for its serene atmosphere and historical significance, making it a must-see during your visit.

Day 02
Thimphu – Punakha

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before checking out and embarking on an early drive over Dochula Pass towards Punakha, the former capital of Bhutan. Dochula Pass is a favorite among tourists, offering breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of the Himalayan mountain range. On clear winter days, the sight of snow-capped peaks against the serene backdrop of the 108 chortens that dot the pass is truly majestic. Take a moment to stroll around the chortens and soak in the stunning views of the Himalayas if the weather permits.

In the afternoon, visit Chimi Lhakang, a beautiful Buddhist monastery located in the Punakha District. Perched on a small hill near the village of Lobesa, this monastery was constructed in 1499 by Ngawang Choegyel. To reach the temple, enjoy a short 30-minute hike across picturesque rice fields, immersing yourself in the tranquil rural landscape.

Day 03
Punakha (Soft Hike, about 2-3 hours)

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before setting out for a short hike of approximately 3 hours to visit Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. This unique temple, perched high on a mountain, is reached via a scenic trail from the village. It stands as a splendid example of Bhutan’s remarkable architectural and artistic traditions, and is the only one of its kind in the world. As you descend, take in the breathtaking views of the Punakha Valley.

In the afternoon, visit Punakha Dzong, the second-largest and one of the oldest dzongs in Bhutan, which is also a UNESCO tentative site. Situated at the confluence of the Mo Chhu and Po Chhu rivers, this majestic fortress is where the two rivers combine to form the Puna Tsang Chhu, a tributary of the mighty Brahmaputra River. Constructed in 1638 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal Wangchuck, the dzong was built on the exact spot prophesized by Guru Rinpoche.

Day 04
Punakha – Thimphu – Paro

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before checking out and driving back to Thimphu. Your first stop will be the King's Memorial Chorten, built in 1952 by Bhutan's third king, H.M. Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, as a memorial to his late father.

Next, visit the Drubthob Gonpa, also known as the Zilukha Nunnery, which was once home to Drubthob Thang Thong Gyalpo, often referred to as the "King of the Open Field."

Continue your exploration at the National Library, which houses ancient manuscripts and is home to the largest book in the world. Then, visit the National Institute of Traditional Medicine, a training center for medical practitioners where herbal medicines are prepared and dispensed.

After completing your sightseeing in Thimphu, drive to Paro.

Day 05
Paro – Takshang Monastery (Alt.3100m) about 3-4 hours hike

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before transferring for a morning hike to Taktshang Monastery, famously known as the "Tiger’s Nest." This iconic monument is a source of immense pride for the Bhutanese people, showcasing unique architectural feats that leave visitors in awe.

In the afternoon, visit a local farmhouse to immerse yourself in the traditional way of life. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy tea together and gain insight into the daily routines and customs of the local community.

Day 06
Paro / Kolkata / Hong Kong

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before checking out.

Your first stop for sightseeing is the National Museum of Bhutan, located in the Paro Dzong (a UNESCO tentative site). Housed in the six-story circular Ta Dzong, a medieval watchtower perched above Rimpung Dzong, the museum boasts a priceless collection of textiles, costumes, paintings, appliqué work, wooden handicrafts, weapons, armor, and jewelry. Next, explore Rinpung Dzong, which is built on a steep hill along the banks of the Paro Chu River. The front section serves as the District Administration, while the rear courtyard is home to the district’s monk body.

If time permits, take a moment for last-minute shopping in the vibrant Paro market, where you can find local handicrafts and souvenirs to cherish your Bhutanese experience.
