Breakfast at hotel. On this day, you will embark on a scenic coach journey through picturesque landscapes via the Albis Pass and along the shores of the Lake of the Four Forested Cantons (as Lake Lucerne is romantically called in German) to Lucerne. Enjoy a stop in this historic city for a brief tour of the main sights, including the Lion Monument, which was described by Mark Twain as ‘the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world’. You will then have some time to explore the Old Town at your own leisure. Admire the frescoed façades and fairytale turrets of the narrow streets and marvel at the wooden Chapel Bridge. Afterwards, continue to Kriens, the picture-postcard alpine village nestling at the foot of Mount Pilatus. Here, hop on a panoramic gondola and enjoy a birds-eye view of the village below as you take the aerial cableway to reach the top, over 2,000 metres above sea level. Admire the breath-taking and spectacular view over the surrounding mountains and lakes, and enjoy free time to stop for a bite to eat or hike to the summit. Hold on to your hat as you prepare for another adventure as you board the world's steepest cogwheel railway (48% gradient) to descend Mount Pilatus to reach the lakeside hamlet of Alpnachstad, from where you will board a ferry for a scenic one-hour lake cruise to Lucerne.
After sightseeing, travel back to Zurich, free and overnight. Lunch & Dinner on guest own account.
