New Zealand is in the south Pacific, southeast of Australia. It comprises North Island, South Island, Steward Island, Chatam Island and other minor Islands. New Zealand is one of the largest exporters of meat, wool, butter and cheese.  Spectacular scenery has attracted many tourists. South Island is mountainous and scenic with glaciers.                                Bus – coach travel is cheaper than air or rail. Schedule buses serve main urban areas.

                               Railway – Picton- Invercargill line runs down the entire east coast of the South Island. 

                               Trains links Auckland, Wellington and Napier on the North Island.

 

COMMUNICATION:        Local calls cost 20cents from public phones. Long distance calls from public 

Phones to be places through the operator. International telephone, fax and 

telex facilities are available at main post offices and major hotels.

ECONOMY : Major exports: Lamb, beef, wool, leather, dairy products, 

                                processed food and Kiwi fruits.

        Major Imports: Motor vehicles, machinery, oil and petroleum products and

9:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday

 

BANK : The major local banks include the Australia and new Zealand Bank ( ANZ), 

                                Bank of New Zealand, National Bank of New Zealand.

        Banking hours are from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday

 

HEALTH : Good hospitals and good medical facilities are available in major cities and town 

throughout the country.

TRAVELLER’S TIPS : Leisure time usually revolves around outdoor activities.  New Zealand is not a place

                                  country, the most easy and convenience way to visit New Zealand.  

 

FOODS : Seafood is plentiful when it’s season. Lamb, beef and fish are inexpensive. 

                                There is a good selection of restaurants in large cities.

                                 Asian food is common in most places.

 

WHAT TO WEAR : Casual clothing acceptable virtually everywhere.

          Jacket or tie or evening dresses are recommended for special functions and dining. 

                                  Business people wear lightweight western-style suits in summer.
